Conditions Treated

I see a wide range of people with a wide range of health concerns in my general family practice. Although prevention is a central tenet of naturopathic medicine, naturopathic care can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional medical care in the effective treatment of most health conditions — from pediatric to geriatric, from acute to chronic illness and from the physical to the psycho-spiritual.

What To Expect

Before your first appointment, you will be asked to complete intake forms. Please bring these forms as well as any available laboratory or diagnostic results from your medical doctor and/or specialist to the first appointment. If you are currently taking any medication or supplements, bring these with you as well. If you do not have access to a printer, please arrive 20 minutes before your appointment to fill out the forms in the waiting room.

The first appointment is approximately 90 minutes long or 60 minutes in the case of pediatric patients. It includes an extensive health history interview, a relevant physical examination and often a Chinese tongue and pulse diagnosis. Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual causes, as well as any contributing factors in lifestyle, habits and attitudes are considered. If further specialized testing is required, it will be suggested at this time. The primary aim is to gain a thorough understanding of your condition in order to facilitate the development of a personalized treatment plan. Patient input is considered in the creation of the treatment plan.

Follow-up appointments are typically 30 to 60 minutes long and involve monitoring and adjusting the treatment plan. Quarterly to yearly appointments are recommended for overall health maintenance. Same-day appointments and phone consults for acute concerns are available.

Laboratory Testing

Laboratory testing may be useful in assessing your health and/or monitoring treatments. Several lab tests can be completed in house, while others such as bloodwork can be ordered through a nearby laboratory or referred to a medical doctor for completion. If lab tests have been ordered by another healthcare practitioner, the results can be faxed over with your consent so that repeat testing is unnecessary.

Lab tests available in-office include:

  • Urinalysis
  • Pregnancy Testing
  • PAP Test and Cervical Culture
  • Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis
  • Food Sensitivity Testing
  • Hair Mineral Analysis
  • Salivary Hormone Assessment
