Sadly, the idea that nature only exists/belongs outside the city limits has too often been reflected in urban planning that bulldozes and buries. One of the reasons I love my neighbourhood is the proximity to so many parks, even if those parks exist by way of the destruction of Garrison Creek. It's easy to see how nature deficity disorder can result from this kind of concretized mindset. Thankfully, many cities are now working hard to increase greenspaces in the urban core. The High Line in NYC is one of my personal favorites.

Hi Cyndi

I just read your blog post. Wonderful writing skills you have. I wish I had a clue (it is me, not you) what you are talking about but nevertheless informative and educational.

Trust you are well and keep up the good work.

Love

I am now intrigued by nature deficit disorder! I find it funny how among my peers there is still this pervasive idea that nature can only be found on a two-hour car ride away up North. We have so much nature here in the city and appreciating all of it I feel will lead us to better respect and protect the smaller pockets of land that we are so fortunate to have in Toronto (aren't we 30% greenspace? My home town of Montreal is apparently only 20%!)
